Microsoft security essentials trouble updating
Wally’s Answer: Microsoft Security Essentials is a great antivirus utility from Microsoft.
The system operates this way so that your first update will include the most up-to-date virus definitions and versions of its components.
For users whose computers are not always on and connected, or users who utilize the sleep and resume functions on their laptops, these updates can often be missed, since the system typically updates between midnight and 6 a.m.
If you have missed many updates, MSE will be very slow when it does get a chance to update because it has to check your virus and spyware definitions against the most current definitions and then update your system accordingly.
Also, I had to remove the "read-only" attribute from the Program Data and Users folders, add the SYSTEM group there too and give them full control.
Only then will the MSI install work and even then, it says I doesn't have the rights to create a shortcut on the desktop.
